Aloud — Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-10-13

These terms govern your use of the Aloud audiobook player app ("Aloud", "the app"), developed by Sergio Piedrahita ("we", "us"). By installing or using Aloud you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

1. What Aloud is

Aloud is a player for audiobooks you already own or have the right to listen to. It plays audio files stored on your device, in cloud storage accounts you connect (such as Google Drive), and public-domain recordings from LibriVox. Aloud does not sell, host, or distribute audiobooks and has no user accounts or servers of its own.

2. Your content and your responsibilities

3. Connected services

When you connect a third-party service, that service's own terms and privacy policy apply to your use of it. Aloud accesses connected services only as described in our Privacy Policy: read-only, on your device, and only for the folders you choose or open. You can disconnect a service in the app at any time, and you can revoke Aloud's access from the service itself (for Google, on your Google Account's linked apps page). Aloud's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

4. License

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Aloud on devices you own or control, for your personal, non-commercial listening. You may not reverse engineer, redistribute, or resell the app except where the law expressly permits.

5. Public-domain catalog

The LibriVox catalog in Aloud lists recordings that their readers released into the public domain. They are provided by LibriVox and the Internet Archive, not by us, and availability may change without notice.

6. No warranty

Aloud is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every file, device, or service.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, files, or listening progress, arising from your use of Aloud. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app, if any.

8. Changes to Aloud or these terms

We may update the app and these terms. Material changes will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date before they take effect. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.

9. Termination

You may stop using Aloud at any time by uninstalling it; this deletes all data the app kept on your device (on Windows, also delete aloud.sqlite and the voice_notes folder from your Documents folder). A copy in your device's own backup follows your backup settings (Privacy Policy, section 7). We may suspend or end support for the app at any time.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the place where the developer is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, to the extent local consumer-protection law does not provide otherwise.
